Recently I attended an event for entrepreneurs, when speaking with many of the lovely women at the event, an issue that I found that was common among most of them was mum guilt and it's something that I could totally resonate with.
I define mum guilt, as the feeling of not being a good enough parent, thinking you are neglecting your children, being torn between being a mum, having a career, or being an entrepreneur and just having to do everything in life.
It should not have surprised me just how common this is, but it did. This is definitely not something that is just defined to women in business, but generally to all women, I’m sure some men must feel it too but I have never spoken to any man about feeling guilty about parenting. In this day and age, it has become a necessity to have a dual-income family where both parents work, either full or part-time. With the cost of housing, food and our wants and needs in life, dual incomes are a necessity to live a comfortable life of...
Money is a double-edged sword. Having money gives you the possibility to make choices, but it also can be the cause of many problems, if you haven’t created a healthy personal relationship with money.
Did you know that:
Creating a solid relationship, whether you be married or not, takes time and patience. It doesn’t matter how much you love and adore your partner merging your lives together and your money can be challenging.
I have been married for a long time, over 2 decades and one thing I swear by is that our finances are combined and have been from the day we got married.
You see the basis of any relationship is trust and if you can’t combine your finances, how can you combine your life. That doesn’t mean that every dollar needs to be together but what it does mean is that if you are living...
Superannuation - Do you cringe when I talk about the importance of building your super?
Let me unpack it for you and simplify it - what is it, how it works, and why it's so important for you to understand it.
Compulsory superannuation came into effect in Australia in 1991 with the introduction of the Superannuation Guarantee – a compulsory contribution system, paid for employees by employers.
The current amount of super that your employer has to pay is 9.5% of your income.
Superannuation is designed to assist you to build funds so you can draw a pension in your retirement. Building an adequate superannuation balance will allow you to be a self-funded retiree and live life on your own terms, it also reduces the pressure on the government to provide old-age pensions - which many of us are not going to get anyway.
Superannuation is complex there are so many laws and regulations, but once you understand it and start to implement some of the strategies, overall it...
As a working mum, I find my life can be quite complicated trying to balance children, husband, parents, working, building a business, having a social life and just having me time.
I found that when I put myself first and yes I know that may sound selfish, I was a much better person overall and was able to be more present and joyful to be around. You see, when I was trying to please everyone else without first looking after myself, I felt like there was never time for me, but I always had to make time for everyone else.
I now live my life on my terms. I believe in a holistic life, once in which we need to balance with our physical, mental and our financial wellbeing. It is about the balance between all three and making space in your life which allows you to live life on your terms.
So here is a little bit about how I make space in my life to balance all three and live a holistic life.
In my work life, I understand my why and my purpose. By doing this it helps me to...
Mindset seems to be a buzzword that most coaches use.
But what is mindset – Mindset is defined as the established set of attitudes held by someone.
You see, up until a few years ago, I was just living life as it was, building a business, seeing clients doing what I do. I was happy but was I living life to my true values and purpose – probably not.
Then I embarked on my journey of personal development and boy did I uncover things I didn’t even know existed in my brain. Neuroscience and the way the brain works is remarkable.
Mindset can be divided into two groups, fixed or growth. Those with a fixed mindset have limiting beliefs, they are stuck in their ways and usually don’t like change. Where those with a growth mindset, embrace change, love to learn and see failure as an experience from which they have learnt.
Having a strong and open mindset allows us to work towards our goals, but our mind loves to play tricks on us and things can come up...
COVID19 what a financial dilemma! This crazy pandemic hasn't just brought about a global health crisis it is also a global financial crisis. Millions of people around the world have lost their jobs as a direct result of the coronavirus, and those that still have jobs may be on reduced pay, hours and even fear they will become jobless in the future.
Finance has always been high up in the list of items that stress people. People often feel vulnerable, overwhelmed, stressed and anxious when it comes to their finances, but COVID 19 has added another level of stress. One which I feel will take some time for people to go back to their old money behaviors. We are not sure how long this will last and what the lasting effects of it will be.
Instead of pushing our financial worries, concerns and problems under the rug, we need to face them in order to move forward. Never has it been a more important time to prioritise your financial wellbeing.
Here is my list...
As I sat down to write this blog today I thought what do I write, but as I started to write and the words started to flow I found that with all that is happening in our world at the moment I want to be totally honest and truly authentic and say some days are amazing and other days are like WTF.
So my normal life is pretty hectic, I run several businesses because I just love to make my life complicated, I’m a mum of 3 boys, 24, 19 & 14 so that is demanding in itself. I’m a wife and work with my husband, who sometimes thinks I am his personal PA and of course I have my beautiful parents who I love to help with everything.
Now in my #isolife, I still come to the office, as we are blessed to have a beautiful office space where we are still able to self distance. I am working, but I’m not feeling stressed. Last week I ran a launch for a new program which was exciting, demanding and fun, but I didn’t feel stressed.
If I look at our businesses and I don't...
How to spruce up your finances during isolation.
With everything that's going on, I want to check-in and see how you are going.
It can be really overwhelming all the things that are being thrown at us, so many people losing jobs, working from home, homeschooling and self-isolation and not to mention the toilet paper shortage.
I have to tell you, sometimes I feel like 2020 is in need of a big overhaul - CTRL - ALT - DEL .. can we please restart.
But we can't and life has to go on. Don't lose touch of your dreams, you can still dream and you can still dream big.
It's the small things we can do now that can keep us on track to achieving our goals.
So with the extra time you have, don't spend it thinking about what could have been, think about what can you do. Don't spend time procrastinating and the truth bomb is.... there is only so much Netflix, Stan and TV you can watch!
So, here are 5...
Wow, life has certainly changed for most of us like a flash of lightening.
With so much uncertainty and not knowing what tomorrow will bring I want to remind everyone that it's at times like this that we need to be empathetic and kind. We don’t know what some is going through, the person at the shops just trying to do their job, the nurses and doctors who are saving lives, the couple who are having issues and now both working from home or the small business owner who has worked for years to build a business and now has to shut the doors and laid off staff because they are not allowed to trade anymore, the teachers who have just been thrown in the frontline and those millions of people who have lost jobs.
We are all going through this together, this is something that is going to affect everyone of us in some way or another. This is not something that is happening in a far off country where we just watch it on the news, we are living and breathing it, with something new...
Who doesn't want a bit of extra money in their pocket each week am I right?
Whether you are saving for a house, planning a holiday, paying off debt or putting money aside for a rainy day, a little extra cash can go a long way. Have you ever considered starting a side hustle? Your 9-5 day job might help you pay for your essentials but a side hustle will give you that little extra to help you achieve your goals quicker.
A side hustle is a way of making income outside of your daily 9-5 jobs. It is any type of employment undertaken in addition to one’s full-time job. Side hustles are generally freelance or piecework in nature, providing a supplemental income. They are often things a person is passionate about, rather say a typical day job worked in order to make ends meet. A side hustle can allow you to make extra money that can give you the freedom to pursue your passions, purchase the things you need or want and...
